Hmm... What does that mean?
Radical - relating to or affecting the fundamental nature of something. Compliance - the act or process of doing what you have been asked or ordered to do : the act or process of complying.
















I have spent the most part of the last year processing a two week workshop with Allegheny Meadows and Andy Brayman at Anderson Ranch Arts Center. Through out the year I have been throwing cups. Some with a basic form that end up decorated with a "G" for Gateway HS and and employees name, some for my graduating Seniors (35) and then the rest have been cup forms that I have altered after throwing by mark marking, stretching to make bumps or adding other impressions. My handles and the finishing of the feet of these cups has evolved from the basic forms I usually throw. These cups are intentionally tactile.

So when I started considering my entry into the 2016 Colorado Art Educator Exhibit at the Metro State University Center for Visual Arts Gallery with the theme of Radical Compliance (opening May 6th - July 2nd) at first I wanted to exhibit 9 cups on the wall and title my piece "Cups 3 cubed". However the gallery told me that they would prefer my 3D work to be displayed on pedestals. At this point I also realized that the pieces I was going to display were all about conversations I have been having with myself about form and how much I could play, change, or alter with the basic form, handle or foot of these cups while still allowing them to remain cups. For the first time in displaying my work - it had also become an installation that needed a "map" because I wanted my work to have "conversations" in small groups of 2's and 3's.

I am visiting my Mom, Sis and Nieces in Vancouver Washington. Mom and I went to the Japanese Gardens in Portland, Oregon and virew "Urushi: Masterpieces of Laquerware by Kazumi Murose, Living Treasure of Japan. The forms and the intricacy of the designs are beautiful. I will have to post pictures when I get back to Denver. I have also be to see the Chihuly exhibit 3 times at the Denver Botanical Gardens, also quite amazing and beautiful.

I have eight pieces (two ceramics, two Photos, two paintings and two jewelry pieces) juried into Kaleidoscope Exhibition. It is nice to have my work in multiple mediums juried into a show. 
The exhibition is at the Colorado Gallery of the Arts at Arapahoe Community College, 5900 South Santa Fe Drive in Littleton with the opening reception on Friday, July 11th from 5 to 7 PM. The show runs from July 7th to July 29th and is open Monday - Friday from Noon to 5 PM, Tuesday nights until 7 PM. See gallery below ( one Jewelry piece not pictured)

It has been about a year since my last post. So much has happened in a year. I attended ArtSource 2013, put my daughter on a plane that would take her to a yearlong teaching job in Mongolia and I went to Vancouver, Wa. to see my mom and sister. I was in the "Process Interrupted" Art show at the Center for Visual Arts in Santa Fe Arts District in Denver. I started a new school year with 2 fabulous new colleagues, Melanie Perkins Rose and Andrea Slusarski, in the Gateway Art Department. A hallowe'en wedding for our 2nd son, and a trip to California in December to celebrate my mother in law's 90th birthday.  I had 2 pieces juried into Earth and Fire show at Spark Gallery also in the Santa Fe Arts district. Spring brought my first set of IB students submitting for their Visual Art HLA final, a 35th wedding anniversary gift of our first grandson, and my husband's earned chairman's trip to Hawaii. I helped with organizing the first Juried High School Metro/Front Range Ceramics show "MetroClay 303" at Plinth gallery and was pleasantly surprised that one of my students received Best of Show (out of the 5 pieces/4 students from Gateway juried in) I recently returned from a summer adventure of traveling to Ohio to meet our grandson, then on to Manchester, New Hampshire where I was greeted at the airport by my sister in law Michele with a flower from my brother Joe who I was going to meet for the first time in Wells Beach, Maine. After two delightful days with them, Michele drove me back to Manchester for the New Hampshire Institute of Art: Summer Art Education Institute for Ceramics, Adobe Lightroom and Acrylic portrait painting. I arrived home a day before we picked up our daughter returning from Mongolia. 

I added a new slide show feature to my portfolio page today.

Last week, Michael was off from Schwab so we spent time together going to movies (MiB3 and Brave), the Denver Art Museum to see Yves Saint Laurent, and Cherry Creek Art Festival. Judy Ahlbrecht joined us for the DAM and CCAF. We went to the Foothills Parks and Rec "Red,White and You" concert at Clement Park - Michael and Hannah were joined by Marsha and Jerry Anema for a Doobie Brothers cover band while I worked the event. On the 4th we joined Gareth, Keely, Sandra and their neighbors for a BBQ that was very nice. We caught up on a few movies at home too including the Artist, John Carter, Safehouse, Sherlock Holmes and This Means War.

On Saturday, Angie and I had the privilege of working with 2 of our Gateway senior's as they selected Cherry Creek Art Festival art work to purchase for our school thanks to the Janus Student Art buying Program!

This morning, I put in a couple hours in the studio glazing and then came home and photographed my newest work and figured out how to upload as a slide show feature on my new web site.

Only three weeks left before reporting back to school.
